Why do RBTs collect and display data?

To Enable Decisions and Recommendations for Program Development

Collecting and displaying data is about making informed decisions for program development. RBTs gather objective measurements of a learner’s behavior across sessions and present them visually so trends, progress, and variability are easy to see. This data-driven view helps determine whether the current intervention is effective, whether goals should be revised, or whether prompts, reinforcement, or other strategies need adjustment. By sharing graphs with the supervising BCBA and caregivers, the team can agree on the next steps and keep the treatment plan progressing in a measurable way. It isn’t just for personal evaluation, public distribution, or archival storage—the primary purpose is to guide and improve the program through data-based decisions.
